What You Should Know Before Deciding To Buy Puppies

Author: John H. Rogers -

Source: articledashboard.com

They are cute, cuddly and have all of the love in the world to give. But in return, they expect the same from you. If you plan to buy puppies, then you are in for a treat and a workout all at the same time. These little furballs are full of energy and cannot wait to unleash it on you, but there is nothing better than a wag of the tail when you walk in the door.

People buy puppies for different reasons, including companionship or to raise them for breeding. There are a number of locations to buy puppies, including animal shelters or directly from breeders. If you buy puppies from an animal shelter, you are literally saving a life. If you are planning to spend money for your new pup, there are some important considerations to think about before adopting the newest addition to your family.

The first thing to consider if you plan to buy puppies is their demeanor. If you want a companion, some types of dogs are more ideal than others and this is especially true if you have young children in the home. A gentle dog is the best kind for children or the elderly. Even though almost every kind of puppy is rowdy, certain ones will grow up to be gentler than others. It's a good idea to read up on the various breeds from the American Kennel Club so that you will know what kind of puppy you want and which will best fit your lifestyle.

Now, do you have the space for a puppy? In the beginning, nothing is puppy-proof and you have to be ready for anything. Because they have a lot of energy, puppies love to play and they will need a lot of space to enjoy. If you plan to keep your new pup inside, be sure that you have a yard that is large enough for him/her to run and play in during the day or, at least, to go for several walks in.

The next thing to consider when you buy puppies is whether or not you have the time to take care of them. Puppies require a lot of work and, if you are keeping them inside, possibly a lot of repairs to your home or furniture. You will have to train your puppy, which takes time, and also make sure that he/she has plenty of fresh, clean water and is fed on a regular schedule. Puppies need to be fed several times each day and, like babies, it's best if they are on a schedule. Don't forget bath-time because a puppy that plays hard will need a good scrubbing. The good news is that if you start giving them a bath early when you buy puppies, they will be better behaved and become more adapt to the process as they get older. You probably do not want to be trying to teach an 80lb. Labrador Retriever that a bath is normal.

Picking Furniture For A Nursery

Author: Bob Benson

Source: isnare.com

Furnishing a nursery can be a wonderful time for an expectant mother. Not only is it fun to prepare for the birth of a baby, but it gives the expectant mother an outlet for those nesting instincts that will soon kick in. A lot of well-meaning people (i.e. parents and in-laws) will convince you that you simply must have certain furniture for your new baby's room.

Some of the furniture you will likely consider includes:
Bassinette
Crib
Changing table
Dresser
Rocking chair

Do you need it all? Only you can know for sure. Ask yourself, "What furniture am I really likely to use?"

A bassinette is handy for keeping the new baby very close. Most are portable so you can roll them throughout the house. If someone offers to loan you a bassinette, take them up on it as long as the mattress is clean and in good shape. You'll only use a bassinette for a short period of time, so why invest in it as a major piece of furniture?

A crib, however, is a different story. If you plan for your child to sleep on his or her own at all, you will want a crib. It's not as safe to borrow a crib from someone and while cribs are a type of baby furniture that have sentimental attachments, don't agree to use an old crib because it was the one your husband used when he was a baby. Safety standards have changed dramatically and what was once considered safe furniture, might not be now. Look online to find baby crib safety standards. Make sure any spindles on the bed are placed close enough so that the baby cannot get his or her head stuck between them. Also, make sure there's no lead paint on the bed. If you're like most mothers, you'll feel better about your baby's safety if you buy new or one that was just recently used by someone you know.

Do you need a changing table? Mothers went for years without this piece of furniture. But, they are nice to have and at a convenient height that saves some back strain. It's a matter of available space, available money and your willingness to bend over to change a diaper!

A dresser, if bought to last for years, would be a good furniture investment. Don't waste money on a cutesy theme dresser that the baby will only outgrow when he or she starts to develop personal tastes. Instead, think about the rest of your house. Do you have a lot of mahogany furniture or a lot of white painted furniture? Buy a dresser that you can move elsewhere in the house if your child decides he or she hates it down the road. Buy solid wood. The furniture will last longer and it will contain fewer chemicals than cheaper veneer furniture pieces often include in the processing stage or in the glue used to hold pieces together.

Everyone thinks you need a rocking chair if you have a baby. Is it a necessary piece of furniture for the nursery? Not if you have a rocking chair somewhere else in the house. No mother or baby wants to spend all their time in the nursery anyway. Use rocking time in another room to give you both a change of pace - unless you just want to buy a rocker.

The Slipcover Question

Author: Daniel Roshard

Source: isnare.com

The slipcover is a source of never ending discussion when it comes to the basics of home management and interior design, one the one hand the slip cover is there to do its work and that is to protect which ever thing it was put on from damage and on the other hand it changes the same exact object by not letting the real quality of this object shine through.

Its really a question of practicality or design, of the way you want your house to look or how much trouble re you willing to go into when something goes wrong, and lets face it, every now and again something does go wrong.

One thing is very clear, for any house with children babies or pets that slipcover is a wonderful thing, you should be aware of the advantages of the slipcover even if you spent only one day with some kids to know that it is saving the furniture and the everything around it on a daily basis. Pets are also a problem for people who want to maintain the quality of their furniture, cats damage the texture and dogs like to chew on everything so a couple of slipcovers for a house that has a few pets in it seems like a must have.

The feeling for and against the slipcover split in the childless and non pets houses, this is were some feel that the slipcover is not needed and is sometimes even a reason to make a guest feel a little bad about what his hosts are thinking about him, meaning that these people do not trust their guests will not spill coffee on the sofa or let the piece of cake drop into the new coach, making it an eternal memory of their visit to the house. The other thing about the slipcover is that it is usually an independent object with its own style, texture and color, meaning that placing on top of a piece of furniture does not serve the original object on which it is placed any purpose, making the looks of the furniture an unnecessary fact.

Slipcovers are useful but it seems like not everyone is convinced of their usefulness, as discussed above some feel that they are not needed at all, the good thing about slipcovers is that today there are so many difference makers of slipcovers that almost anyone can find something for his or her own needs, the variety in style and color, the different textures and materials used makes slipcovers something that is not a design problem for the house but rather a dilemma for the home owner since the selection is so big that control on the house design only increases by using slip covers.

The best thing about slipcovers is that you can get two sets, use a different set every time and change the whole look of the room, you can even get two matching slipcover sets and match colors between pieces of furniture in the room, change the slipcovers when you do the washing or just mix and match as you like.

With slipcovers the furniture is safe, and you will never feel bad about anything spilling or dropping on the sofa, it will save a lot of anger and aggravation and keep the house clean and neat, not to mention that you can use the slipcover to change the design of your home.

Siblings and the Homebirth Setting

Author: Yvonne Lapp Cryns

Source: download

As birth moved out of the home, and families were splintered by the birth experience, birth no longer was a family event. Birth became dehumanized. With the return to home and with the consumer demands for more "home-like" settings in institutions, the concept of children at birth has became a "problem" that needs special preparation, classes and advice from "experts". I have a very strong prejudice regarding children's presence at birth -- if the mother and father want their children present at the birth and if the children want to be there, then that is how that family should have their birth. This is their family. To quote Marjie Hathaway, the family is "a necessary and holy institution." A midwife's job is to support and empower families. 1, 2
Why should children be present?
*bonding *positive sex education *an appreciation of fear and pain *to witness a miracle *be helpful and encouraging *be a part of the whole family *maybe diminish sibling jealosy Why should children not be present? *negative feelings about sex, birth *fear of the unknown *lost modesty for mother *shock at seeing "forbidden body parts" *pain might frighten child *potential for nightmares 3, 4
How some parents decide
Some families are very comfortable being with their children in various stages of dress or undress, occasionally share their bed with a child and are easily able to discuss any topic that arises with their children. Other families are very modest and avoid discussions about body parts or sex. There is no right way, but for a family contemplating a birth with children present, a certain amount of information will need to be shared. In a family that is extremely modest, the parents need to discuss their level of comfort with having their children see the mother somewhat naked. If mother is not comfortable with this idea, then it may be better to plan for the children to be there but not in the room where the birth will be taking place. Of course, other concerns such as passing involuntary feces, amniotic fluid and blood may be embarrassing to some mothers (or fathers) who would prefer to not have their older children present. Sometimes women make noises while they labor and push. A mother must be sure that she is comfortable making those necessary sounds with her children present. At some point during the birth, their mother will be unclothed in order to birth the baby and nurse the newborn. If the children will be able to witness the birth, they need to know where the baby is going to come out and a little bit about how the process works. How detailed these explanations become will depend on the age and curiousity of the child or children.
Parent preparation
Probably the best preparation is good communication between parents. For parents who feel they need more knowledge, a consumer oriented childbirth course may be time well-spent. Many of these courses include discussions of children at birth. Some even have a class devoted to the siblings, to help the parents prepare them for their new brother or sister. Those who are planning to have an unmedicated, natural birth need to take good care of themselves. Good nutrition is the cornerstone of a healthy pregnancy and goes hand in hand with a lifestyle that includes adequate exercise and avoids smoking, alcohol and drugs. A healthy woman stands a very good chance of giving birth to a healthy baby. The place of birth must be agreeable to the mother and hopefully the father, too. 6 Advantages
There are numerous positive aspects to having children present at their sibling's birth. The family is together for a family event, they feel a part of it. Psychologically, they are not locked out of a family experience. Home birth helps with this regard also because mother and baby are always there, whereas if mom disappears and shows up days later with the baby, the children left behind may feel they were abandoned and are jealous of the new baby. 2, 8
Problems
With younger children, fear is often an issue that arises, especially if the mother is making noises, working hard, or has her face grimaced in pain. Having someone at the birth whose sole function is to take care of the children can ease this problem. Sometimes little children become bored by the labor and that person can take them for a walk or play with them. 8 Child preparation 1) discuss with children what will happen a) pregnancy, labor and birth b) read books about birth c) watch birth videos d) answer questions in an age-appropriate way 2) keep conversations about birth positive 3) take children with you to prenatals so they become familiar with your birth attendant and some of the routines (BP, pulse, palpation, etc.) 4) give each child a job to do during labor or birth or after a) give massage b) get drinks for mom c) make meals d) cut cord e) dress baby, etc. 5) have caretaker present for children who need someone 6) have a party for new baby after the birth for siblings 4, 7 Guidelines for Children at Birth
*children must be able to come and go as they need *caregiver will take care of smaller chilren's needs *children will stay in their own home either before, during or after the birth *only a familiar person will wake up a young sleeping child *reassure children that everything is alright *let the children get to know each other in both planned (give a gift) and unplanned ways 2
Experiences
Family after family documented their births with older siblings present in Children at Birth. Nearly all the children who were interviewed were very pleased to have been at the birth and were not frightened by the actual birth. One story near the end highlighted the reason a caregiver is needed for the children. This little girl was firghtened by the mother's efforts to pucsh the baby out and left the room, refusing to re-enter. Then someone noticed she was upset and talked with her about her fear, got the mother to smile, and the little girl joined her family for the birth. 8 The Thompson family had a number of children born at home and all of them remember the events as being very exciting and filled with joy. The husband of one of the daughters comments, "At one time, I believed having a baby was just the same as having your appendix removed. It always seemed like it was a matter of life and death..." After the homebirth of his niece, whom he saw within 5 minutes of her birth, he said, "I can't believe that something so complex could be so simple and beautiful." Although he was an adult, his impression expresses what so many children feel but are unable to articulate. 9 Sue Hathaway, 15, spoke at a NAPSAC conference about her experience watchilng her youngest sibling be born. Her concluding comment was "If you are not going to learn from your parents about having babies, who is going to teach you?" Jonathan Stewart also spoke at that NAPSAC conference. His recollections of the births of his 4 siblings were of wonder, "pleasant memories", and he remembers very little blood. Younger brother Keith, upon seeing his newest brother just be born, blurted out, "Look, Mom, he is naked." Ten-year-old Lora in remembering the her brother's birth says "I felt love in my heart. . . I felt close to him." 10 Shiela Kitzinger interviewed a couple of women whose older child slept until the baby was just born and then awaoke and joined the family on the birth bed. Said one, "Julie woke up to find a sister had been born during the night just as we had told her it would happen. We were the happiest little family in the world." 11 Sandra Anderson had her son Josiah in a hospital with many interventions. When she became pregnant with her second child, she was determined to have a natural birth and to include Josiah in this very family-centered event. He was 2 1/2 years old. Her perspective of his experience was that he was comfortable with the whole situation. An added benefit for her, was that he reminded her that she would not be in labor forever, as he asked, "Where are my tinkertoys" and "I want a peanut butter sandwich." She felt Josiah added a "wonderful spirit of spontaneity to the birth." 12 Children have a different perspective on birth and do not necessarily "see" it as adults do. One woman remembered how after the birth of her fifth child, her fou-year-old came into the room and noticed the furniture had been rearranged. This so interested her that she went and got her other siblings to see the room. One family felt that having the children included from the start of the pregnancy through the birth was very important and wrote, "The midwife asked us every day how the baby was, and the children delighted in telling her all that had happened since her last visit. These may appear to be trivial details. But when I read of the break-up of families perhaps they are not so trivial, but vitally important factors instead." 11
Studies
A number of studies have been conducted over the years looking at various aspects of birth and the effect on children and families. A few studies have found that one of the reasons parents choose a home birth is specifically for the opportunity for all family members to have a positive experience. Lewis Mehl noted that the children he studied had accurate information about birth and saw the event as a good experience. Another researcher, Chase, found that mothers noted less sibling rivalry between sibllings who were present at the birth. Curry comments that children blame the new baby when mother disappears to go to the hospital, but when children are included in the birth, they see the new baby as a "gift." When children were allowed at births, their view of birth became a real experience and not the mysterous, scarey, life-or-death event portrayed in the media. They were not separated from their mother or father and so by-passed the separation anxiety that many children suffer when their siblings are born in a hospital that does not permit their presence. It is felt that the presence of children at birth also affects how well the siblings bond, sinimlar to the mother-infant bonding that occurs immediately after birth. 2 While not a truly scientific study, Dr. Michelle Harrison's informal study of children over a two hour time during which they were actively speaking about birth and related issues, makes a couple of points. She notes that the conversations about birth seemed so serious, where as when the children were discussing animal births, they were livlier. Her interpretation includes the insight that they may perceive talk about birth as being more for adults. Some children did talk about bad outcomes and Dr. Harrison writes that this affirms the idea that birthing babies is serious business. One topic that was somewhat surprising was a discussion about talking about birth at school. They tended to feel that it was not ok to talk about their birth experience at school or with with their teachers or peers because the experience was not a familiar one.

Practical Furnishing Ideas For Kid Rooms

Author: Sherrie Le Masurier

Source: articleage.com

Kids and quality go hand and hand. Kids will be kids. They are often rough and tuff on furniture. So when it comes to furnishing kid rooms it's wise to make quality purchases that will not only last but will grow right along with them.
Take for instance, double and triple function furnishings. This kind of kid room furniture is a real blessing as it can take your toddler right through to his teen years.
One of my favorite kid room furnishing ideas are 3-in-1 one units which feature a sleeping area, storage space and a place to study.
Multiple purpose furnishings can save floor space and enhance the play value of a kid room. You no longer have a need for extra furniture that takes up valuable space. A further bonus is that it's usually less expensive to buy one opposed to two or three separate pieces of furniture.
Great 2-in-1 designs like bunk beds that reassemble as single beds and seating units with concealed storage are also ideal.
When looking to make such a large purchase it's best to comparison shop. Also give some thought to how the piece of furniture will serve your child's needs in the years to come.
Convertible furnishings start with cribs. Today's baby cribs often come as a combination crib and storage unit. Features may include a standard crib with rails attached on one side to a multiple drawer chest. Here, both the crib and chest would sit on a foundation of dual blanket drawers.
Once out of the crib, your toddler can sleep on an extension mattress (and spring) that is added once the rails and chest are removed. On some models this is standard. Other models have this as an option only. Consider the price difference of both.
Such a configuration offers up years of usefulness - a single bed and a freestanding chest of drawers. Other chest/crib combos feature a detachable change station on top of the storage unit. If considering this design, give some thought as to the most comfortable height for changing your baby. Most are between 30 to 40" high.
Trundle beds (with a roll-out sleep unit) are ideal for sleepovers, extra storage and additional play opportunities. You can remove the bottom mattress and use the frame for off season storage or for a train or car track set up.
Foam futons are another multiple function piece of furniture. Originally of Japanese origin these lightweight mattresses fold in half or thirds to provide comfortable seating when not used for sleeping. Today's futons come in various shapes and sizes including child sized recliners and sofas. Futons are known to be lightweight and easy to flip.
Don't let bold colored or patterned futons discourage you from making a purchase. Instead, recover the mattress with a sheet that matches the d้cor of the room.

Contemporary Rugs Can Transform a Room

Author: Scott Gray

Source: articleage.com

When tackling a do-it-yourself home decorating project, you can use rugs as a relatively inexpensive means of enhancing or transforming a room. There are practical considerations in how to use rugs to advantage, and how to get good value for your money. The purchase of contemporary rugs for one or more areas of your home can make a significant contribution to the beauty and comfort of its interior.
When you use rugs to decorate a room, it is important to assess what you are trying to accomplish: for instance, two or more rugs can visually separate the various living areas of a room, while a single rug can unifying the room into one spatial flow. As well as deciding on the number and size of rugs you need, it is also important that you choose a rug or rugs that will be compatible with other colors and patterns in the room. You must also consider the quality of the rug and the potential traffic to which it will be subjected so that you chose one that can be maintained for many years.
What are the Advantages of Using Area Rugs?
A benefit of decorating with rugs is that one rug can serve many different functions over time, and will, therefore, provide good value for your money. A contemporary modern rug can hang on the wall as a piece of art work, be moved later to a floor in the family room, kitchen, bathroom, or even a baby room, and end its life on the basement floor. If you move to another house, you can take the rug with you. Rugs can also preserve the beauty and life of your wall-to-wall carpeting or your hardwood floor when placed strategically in high traffic areas, and can be used to warm up both the appearance and the feel of tile, stone, and concrete. Rugs can be used to mute sounds and add a dramatic splash of color to an otherwise bland room.
What Are You Trying to Accomplish?
If you want a rug to be the focal point of a room, the color and patterns should be bold and bright. If you are selecting a contemporary area rug for a room with existing decorating elements, you should repeat either the dominant or the accent colors already in place. You should also consider the rug pattern so that you don't choose one that clashes with the pattern of another fabric in the room. If neutral colors have been chosen for the walls, curtains, and furniture, you can use a rug to add visual impact by choosing a strong pattern in a bright color like red or royal blue. In general, rugs should not have a busy design if the colors and patterns of the room already make it appear very busy.
Instead of using a rug as the focal point of a room, you can choose one that defines a conversational or work area instead. You can also select more than one rug order to break up a room into different areas. When more than one rug is used in the same room or they are placed in such a way that they can be seen together, they need not be identical but the colors and designs should be harmonious.
You may decide to use a rug to preserve a hardwood floor or wall-to-wall carpeting in an area that has a lot of heavy traffic. If that is the case, it is a good idea to select a rug with a detailed pattern and a dark color that won't show dirt easily, and is of good quality. If a rug is needed for a room in which small children or pets play, you might consider purchasing several small rugs that can be cleaned by throwing them in the washer and dryer.
What Size Do You Need?
Choose a rug that is proportional to the floor space in the room. If the rug is the focal point, there should be an equal amount of bare floor around it on all sides, even if the room is irregular in shape or there is, say, a fireplace that projects into the room. If you can't manage that, at least have an equal amount of bare floor exposed on two parallel sides of the rug. The rug should be large enough to unify the furniture by extending under all or part of most items that are placed in the central area.
If you are using more than one rug to define two or more areas of the room, the rugs should be under at least the front legs of each item in the selected areas. If it is a rug for an eating area that is part of a larger room, choose a rug that is big enough to extend beyond the table by eighteen to twenty-four inches. If the rug is in a bedroom, it doesn't need to be centered if the bed is not centered in the room. Instead, the rug should be situated so that the most visible exposed floor spaces on three sides of the rug are identical in size. When placing your furniture on a rug in any room, there should not be more than two feet of empty rug extending beyond the furniture groupings.
To help decide what size of rug you need, use masking tape to mark the four corners of the area you plan to cover. If you still have trouble visualizing the effect, you can cut pieces from a paper roll to cover the area.
Why Choose a Contemporary Style?
Contemporary rugs feature unlimited choices of color and design, and lessen the need to add a lot of other decorating elements to a room. Contemporary rugs are not only suitable for a modern home, they can also create dramatic appeal in a more traditional home. You can purchase affordable rugs on a limited budget if you shop carefully. Discount outlets and sale prices can lower the cost of adding one or more rugs to your home. The better quality rugs are, in general, easier to maintain and will last longer than their cheaper counterparts.
The cost of a rug is closely tied to the fiber from which it is made. Wool is the most expensive and most durable fiber, and is soft and easy to clean. Wool provides the standard by which all other fibers are judged. Cotton and jute are softer than wool, but not as durable, and jute won't stand up under prolonged exposure to sunlight or moisture. Sisal is strong and durable, as well as colorfast and static-free. Synthetic fibers include the tough and durable acrylic; the stain-resistant, water-repellent, inexpensive polypropylene, or olefin; and the durable, easy to clean and maintain nylon.
Whether the rugs you choose are made of expensive wool or a cheaper synthetic fiber, they can add beauty to your home, and comfort under foot. Contemporary rugs are artwork for the floor, and when chosen well can add that magical decorating touch we all love.

Fill Your Home With Fantastic Furniture and Stay Within Your Budget

Author: Fashun Smith

Source: articleage.com

The new house looks like a wasteland right now, and the prospect of populating it with furniture is both exciting and terrifying. It will be expensive, but you will be able to express yourself through the appearance of your house—or at least express yourself muffled under the self-expression of the rest of family, anyhow. Be sensible when you start your shopping, and give yourself time to shop around for the best deals you can find.
Assess your priorities and your budget. Maybe you're newlyweds furnishing a new home or apartment. Or you have a baby on the way with a nursery to build and a crib to buy. Perhaps all you need is a new sofa, as the one you have is looking a little worn. Create a list of what you need the most, what you want it to be like, and what it is in your budget to get. Never go furniture shopping without having firm guidelines set for yourself.
Just look around! You'll never know what you want if you don't browse about a bit. Of course, even if you browse, you may not find whatever it is that you need. In such a case, ask the sales associates—that is, after all, why they're there. Many furniture designers are also more than willing, at no extra charge, to help you out with the blockages that come in your way in regards to your interior design. And if you can't find what you want in the store, ask about assistance for special orders.
Dress comfortably. You're probably as picky as the next person when it comes to making your abode a home, and as big as furniture stores are, this might take awhile. So don those sneakers and jeans and get ready for a long, enjoyable, sometimes tiring ride.
Do you want to make sure everything matches that perfect, ideal color, but you don't have such a knack at comparing phantom shades in your head to real ones on that couch over there by the escalators? Take a sample to compare. Memory can be capricious, and you don't want to purchase an armchair that seemed right only to bring it home and find that it and the curtains are completely mismatched.
Test out the furniture before you purchase it, to make sure it has the right feel and works the way you want it to. Sit on the sofa, study the drawer space, and swivel in the office chair. You don't want to buy a beautiful couch only to realize on your first recline that it isn't nearly as comfortable as it is good looking.
Don't forget your tape measurer, either! Accuracy can be important when trying to figure out if an entertainment center will fit comfortably into your living room, and deciding whether or not the television set will fit inside of that entertainment center.
But most importantly, have a great time! Shopping for furniture may seem like a job at time, but take time to recharge yourself and remember that this isn't drudgery, but that you're in the process of forming the personality of the room or house that you're decorating

The Many Uses of Wet Wipes When Out and About

Author: Albert Torel

Source: ezinearticles.com

Wet wipes are a common feature every where. They are there in every household, in the hotels and rest rooms and inevitably, in every lady's handbag. Wet wipes are small, folded, moistened pieces of cloth or paper that are usually individually wrapped. They are used for cleaning and /or disinfecting purposes. The oldest wipes produced were baby wipes which were used for cleaning a baby's bum, face or entire body. The manufacture of wipes has since grown to include different types of wet wipes for different uses.

Wet wipes can be used to clean virtually any surface or object. There are car wipes for cleaning the interior of the car and wipes for toilet, bathroom, floor and furniture. One thing that makes them so convenient is their disinfectant properties. Their ability to cleanse is more assuring than simple washing with soap or water. There are kitchen wipes that are made for cleaning kitchen surfaces. Utensils can be cleaned using utensil wipes. They are readily available at restaurants and come in handy when it comes to wiping spills off the table or your dress. Kitchen wipes are not only limited to use in hotels. They are good for home use too. Other than just helping to clean your dishes, you can carry them with you when going for picnics. They are highly convenient for this, especially because of water limitation in such outings. Most people find them useful in cleaning up dishes and wiping their hands and mouths after eating. You now have every reason to include that yummy steak or other fried or oily food in your picnic dish - the wet wipes will take care of the smudges and stickiness!

The constant traveler knows the goodness the world of wipes brings him - instant freshness. In the midst of all the heat, simply wipe off your face and look presentable wherever you set foot. Keep a pack in the car or get one from the service station on the way. If you are on the plane, grab some from the utilities corner. They will remove the tiredness showing on your face.

Wet wipes have added to the joy of sporting events. There are pain-relieving wipes that give instant relief to injured sportspeople. Fans too have a gentle, safe way of wiping away the sweat that comes with jumping, shouting and cheering. They are also an alternative to body showers. In fact, most women will sneak into restrooms to clean up their underarms when the heat becomes unbearable.

The biggest scorer for women has to be make-up (remover) wipes. These are used to remove all sorts of make-up; concealer, foundation, blush, mascara, name it. Some women are now using these wipes to cleanse their faces instead of traditional soap and water. This is because they clean, open up the pores of the skin, and moisturize the skin at the same time. There is no risk of contamination as they absorb all germs and dirt without tearing.

Albert is a member of staff at a leading wet wipes and baby products manufacturer in Europe, is also a father and family man of many years.

Antiques, Collectibles, & Memorabilia: Do You Know the Difference?

Author: Martin Swinton

Source: articleage.com

The world of antiques can be confusing. What's the difference between an antique and collectible? Aren't collectibles and memorabilia really the same thing? In this month's column, I'll de-mystify these terms, so that you'll be appropriately armed for your next antique adventure.
Antique
Basically, an antique is something old that has value because of aesthetic or historical reasons. Generally, if a piece is over 100 years old, it is considered an antique. Although, I do know that some people use the 50-year mark for Canadian pieces; the rationale being that Canada is a young country relative to places such as Europe and Asia. However, I'm old fashioned and apply the 100-year definition to Canadian pieces.
Collectible
A collectible is something that is less than 100 years old that has value because of aesthetic or historical reasons. This term fills the gap for valuables that aren't quite old enough to be an antique.
One category of collectible is items with intrinsic artistic merit. A stunning Art Deco table fits into this category. It was beautiful when it was made in the 1930s, is beautiful today and will still be beautiful when it hits the 100-year old mark.
A second category is mass-produced collectibles. Beanie Babies, trading cards and Hummel figurines fit into this category. They don't necessarily have a lot of artistic merit. But manufacturers have created desirability by producing limited editions.
Another category is items associated with particular people. For example, anything worn by the Beatles or Elvis Presley is collectible.
Memorabilia
There is a difference between collectibles and memorabilia. Collectibles are things that are ornamental. They never served an utilitarian purpose. A piece of memorabilia served a particular purpose. Movie posters, sports programs, cameras, television sets and musical instruments are all examples of items that fall into this category. Movie posters were used to sell movies. Sports programs were used to communicate information. And, cameras, television sets and musical instruments all serve a function.

Natural Baby Products For a Healthier Baby and Planet

Author: Sonia Reece

Source: ezinearticles.com

Natural baby products will assist greatly in the health and wellness of your child. It will also offer mama the piece of mind knowing that her bundle of joy is exposed to the healthiest products on the planet, for the planet. A consumer really needs to self educate and become aware of natural product ingredients, materials, and socially responsible principles in order to truly represent natural living.

The list of natural baby products is quite extensive, to name a few: cloth diapers, skin/body care, clothing, books, textiles, toys, furniture, and games. Sometimes, even when a product states that it's "all natural" there are still hidden toxins or impurities. For example, food grade skin care is considered the safest and absolute purest choice for the true "natural" consumer.

What prompted my initial search was the importance of discovering safe, natural, and effective products for my un-born first child. Secondly, once my child was born, I was motivated to research natural baby products to create a list of resources to pass on to more traditional, phthalate plastic crazed and synthetic minded family members.

On the subject of natural baby products, in particular, skin/body care, I discovered some interesting facts. I will offer this as an example on what the general population does NOT know about.

For starters...

Washing babies skin with soaps or detergents can cause the loss of acid mantle. Repetitive washing alters the stratum cornea and barrier functions, including skin pH. Once damaged, it can take up to 14 hours to restore, by which time, it's most likely under assault again from another washing.

There are many diseases that cause an increase in skin surface pH if not utilizing natural baby products. Skin conditions that can cause this phenomenon include:

• Eczema • Contact dermatitis • Atopic dermatitis • Dry Skin

Can you imagine if the general population knew how to "cure" the common eczema? If we all knew about and trusted natural baby product choices, a lot of baby/childhood ailments could be prevented.

Another tip...

When purchasing natural baby products, how about considering the following choices or alternatives to assist you on your natural way.

1. Clothing and Textiles- organic cotton, renewable resources such as bamboo and hemp, and or no dyes or pigments. 2. Furniture- non-toxic wood stains such as soy based, beeswax, etc. 3. Body/skin care- food grade, herbs, and botanical based products. 4. Bedding- organic bedding and or bamboo. 5. Cloth Diapers- organic cotton or most cloth choices over the alternative (one pamper takes 300 years to biodegrade).

Toys- wooden, non-toxic paints and materials, phthalate free plastic.

The above is only a short list of what to look for when buying or researching natural baby products. You may also want to consider purchasing American made or socially responsible baby products to insure that happy humans are helping conserve and bring awareness to a happy planet.
