Most people think of pi๑atas as just a fun activity for parties, but the history of the pi๑ata reveals many interesting facts that go beyond the playing of a game, but pi๑atas certainly can be fun. Many people believe pi๑atas are Spanish, Mexican, or Latino in origin, but they probably actually originated in China. In modern times, pi๑atas are made in all shapes and sizes. They are common at all types of parties, from children's birthday parties, to Cinco de Mayo. They can be made to fit practically any theme, and filled with whatever you wish, from party favors like candies, pens, pencils, stickers, balloons, or whatever items you choose.
Pi๑atas are also easy to make and can be great as a party activity that guests cannot only make, but take home as their own party favor. It is important that this activity be one of the very first, so the pi๑atas can dry, before the party is over.
First make a finger paint recipe, which can be doubled or tripled, if necessary.
1/4 Cup cornstarch
2 Cups water
Food coloring
Mix the cornstarch and water in a sauce pan, and cook until thick. Allow it to cool, and add lots of food coloring, to make the paint bright and vivid.
Blow up a good sized balloon, and tie it off securely with a string or ribbon. Tape the ribbon to the table, but leave enough play, so it is easy to move the balloon and cover all sides.
Because finger paints can get messy, a wide, open space away from furniture, walls, or carpeting is best. Put an old, adult long-sleeved button-down shirt on each child, backwards to use as a paint smock. Be sure to cover the area they're painting on with plenty of newspapers or a drop cloth.
Let each child dip paper (butcher paper, or white paper works best, but you can use newspaper, paper bags, or gift wrap too) into the finger paint, and stick it to the balloons in layers, but be sure to leave an opening large enough to put in some goodies. Then take the strings, and tie the balloons to a clothesline, so they can dry. When they are dry, carefully push a pin into the balloon to pop it, add party favors, and stick a final piece of paper over the hole. These pi๑atas can be taken home as party favors!

It can be very difficult to keep up with your toddler and they can get from point A to point B in the time it takes you to turn around for just a second to do your normal daily chores. So you need to have confidence that your home is safe for your toddler to explore, even when you aren't watching them.
In this article, we will explore areas of your home and help you identify danger zones, then help you fix them so your explorer is safe in his new adventures. Remember, in every room of the house, get on your hands and knees and look at the world from your toddler's point of view. This will give you a better perspective on the dangers that lurk there.
Let's start where your toddler starts his or her day, their bedroom.
Is the glass in your toddler's bedroom made of tempered glass? Non-Tempered glass is dangerous, because it does not break into the tiny pieces that safety glass does. If your toddler's windows are non-tempered, you can either have new window glass installed or apply security film to them. The film is a much less expensive solution and binds the pieces of glass together if the window is ever broken.

Make sure you buy protective covers for all outlets. Having the outlets installed higher up the wall, out of reach of your toddler is an even better solution and much more convenient for you.

Also, if your furniture in any room of the house has sharp corners, something needs to be done about it. Either purchase furniture without sharp corners or buy cushions that can be placed over the corners. You can also make your own. Just be sure it's well padded so the corner cannot cause serious injury.
If you have a home office, I could write a whole article about the dangers for your toddler there. Use the overhead door locks to keep your toddler out of your office if possible. That's the best advice and might save you having to do a lot of work over again after your toddler gets through with it.

Here are five simple steps to help your teen tackle his, or her, own room makeover project:
Step 1. Set a budget. You can be generous, and give your teen some money to spend in the room. Or you can really drive home the financial lesson by making her create a budget based on her own sources of income – from allowances and part-time jobs to gifts from grandparents. Either way, make sure she understands she must accomplish her redesign with the money she has, just like in the adult world where going over budget would have serious consequences.
Step 2. Help him choose a theme for the room. Most teens have definite opinions about what they like – and dislike. So chances are your teen will have an idea of a theme he would like to pursue. Encourage him to choose a theme that will grow with him, or that he will enjoy at least until he’s a college freshman.
Step 3. Enhance the theme with color and artwork. Painting the walls and hanging artwork are two of the easiest ways to underscore a design theme. Most teens are capable of painting. They can also enhance the theme with a wall mural.
