To many, the platform bed is a wonderful way to dress up a room. There is something about sitting up high that makes you feel important, special and yes, even princess like (although the men are not likely to admit to that!) Yet, these types of beds don't have to be something that you dread. They can be a lot of fun and they can be interesting too! If you think that platform beds are something for the young, think again. They make the perfect bed for anyone that's young at heart and enjoys the look and feel of them.
A platform bed is really a bed that is elevated higher off the ground than other beds are. Those that enjoy these beds are often looking at the historical, decorative and comfort features that they can offer. Most will enjoy the fact that these beds do provide them with good support and make for conversation pieces when you enter the room. Although platform style beds have been around for a long time, it hasn't been until recently that they are making a comeback, and people are falling in love with them all over again.
What To Consider
When you are considering purchasing a bed like this, there are several things that you should take into consideration about them and your own condition before doing so.
ท Size. Not only are most platform beds higher off the ground, but many are larger sized beds as well. If you need a particular size, look for it or have one custom made. You should of course also take into consideration your ceiling height as you'll need to be comfortable with that distance.
ท Structure. One of the most important considerations of a platform bed is the structure of it. It needs to be safe for you to climb up on and to enjoy. You should look at the locations that it is put together, such as the joints. Are they glued? Are they nailed together? Or, the best yet is when they are dove-tailed.
ท Comfort. While these beds look great, they may not be comfortable for you to climb up on. As people age, things like climbing get to be difficult. If you are physically fit, which both of you should be, then getting into a bed like this won't be too hard. Otherwise, consider adding steps (something you may want to do anyway) to the side of the bed to make it easier.
You may also want to take into consideration the look that you are after. Purchasing a bed like this for use in a home that is colonial in design, for example would mean that you would want those design features to come through. Beyond anything else, you should enjoy the platform bed that you select including what it is made from.
You'll be able to find many different types and styles of platform beds on the market today. If you don't find what you are looking for, though, make sure to have it custom made. This way, it fills all of your needs correctly.
